Leadership Development

Daniel E. Hedberg Memorial

December 6, 2016 By Lisa Hill DiFusco

The LightHeart Institute lost a great friend today – Daniel E. Hedberg,
who passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 1, 2016.

Dan HedbergDan served as a volunteer for The Center for Intentional Leadership at The LightHeart Institute hosting the 2016 Global Leadership Summit and preparing for the 2017 Summit. (His wife Maureen was a key volunteer in 2016.) Dan was also the Team Leader for Between the Summits – Leading the Rochester Community from Here to There.

Dan was passionate about promoting leadership development to anyone who would listen and helped to create our leadership vision for Rochester: LEAD – Leadership Excellence Achieved through Development.  Dan so thoroughly believed that “leaders are made, rather than born,” he read and summarized over 300 books on the topic, and sought to share them with anyone who would listen. His biggest professional dream was to found a leadership Institute training students for great leadership impact.

Dwight D. Eisenhower QuoteWe will be forever grateful to Dan, and his leadership, for the countless hours he selflessly devoted, his adamancy that all areas of our programming be well thought out, his insistence that we live the model we profess to the best of our ability, and his dream – that we inspire a new paradigm of thinking resulting in new behavior creating an Upward Spiral of economic prosperity, health and well-being for Rochester and beyond.

We will miss you Dan.

The Power of Vulnerability

August 14, 2013 By Lisa Hill DiFusco

Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past ten years studying vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and shame. She spent the first five years of her decade-long study focusing on shame and empathy, and is now using that work to explore a concept that she calls Wholeheartedness. She poses the questions:

How do we learn to embrace our vulnerabilities and imperfections so that we can engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness? How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, and connection that we need to recognize that we are enough – that we are worthy of love, belonging, and joy?

Love does

August 13, 2013 By Lisa Hill DiFusco

Bob GoffLiving a life fully engaged and full of whimsy and the kind of things that love does is something that most people plan to do, but along the way they just kind of forget. Their dreams become one of those ‘we’ll do it next time’ deferrals. The sad thing is, for many there is no ‘next time’ because passing the chance to cross over is an overall attitude toward life rather than a single decision.

Love Does, Bob Groff
