In recent months Americans have witnessed an increase in the tragic loss of loved ones through suicide, and violent outbursts upon innocent bystanders. Locally we have experienced the tragic death of Philip Seymour Hoffman, originally from Fairport, the trial of Dawn Nguyen, and the Fort Hood shootings.
Simultaneously, the use of pharmaceutical medications has skyrocketed in America. Only two countries in the world allow their citizens to market drugs on television: New Zealand and the United States. In one generation the number of individual pills consumed by Americans has increased from one billion to one hundred thirteen billion.
Is there a relationship between the two?
