Where Do Mental Health Disorders Come From?
Part III of a Five-Part Series
A marked increase in the consumption of psychiatric drugs is occurring simultaneously with an increase in suicides, violence on our streets, and Social Security disability claims. Is there a relationship?
The fifth revision of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, otherwise known as the DSM-5 was released in May 2013 and has been the subject of scathing criticism by psychiatrists and psychologists due to its lack of science and reliability. Within it the list of (insurance-reimbursed) “billable conditions” grew to include Caffeine Disorder, Jet Lag and Mathematics Disorder, to name a few. The DSM IV (the prior edition) created a 40-fold increase in child bipolar diagnosis from the prior edition and an epidemic of dangerous antipsychotic prescriptions for small children.
Please join us for a riveting discussion outlining the scientific failure of the DSM-5 and the implication for adults, youth and children.
